It was interesting going through my LR Metadata this morning while writing the year end summary for the blog.
I feel that the 16-35 f2.8 is ALWAYS on my camera, so I was pretty sure it would win our this year as being the most heavily used lens in my kit. I was surprised to discover that the Canon 70-200 f4L IS once again won for the most used lens.
Though breaking it down by month.
January - Only took 22 pictures total, so lets just not talk about Janauary, All taken with the 85mm F1.8
March - 16-35mm wins here, with 73 out of the 79 pictures I took.
April - 16-35mm Wins again, with 62 out of the 108.
May - 70-200mm f4L wins handily here, 157 out of the 452 photos I tool that month, 16-35mm comes in second with 89.
June - 16-35mm returns to it's place of glory with 446 photos out of 816
July - I didn't take any photos in July (What a shame!)
August - No contest here 968 out of 1042. , 16-35 comes in second with 35
September - 70-200 wins again, with 491 out of 891, 16-13 with 202.
October - Returning as the winner once again, 16-35 with 93 out of 230 photos, the 85mm f1.8 comes in second with 48
November - 70-200 trounces all with 857 out of 1584 photos, 16-25 comes in second with 421 photos.
December - Surprising that the 24-105mm F4L IS comes in the winner here, I hate that lens! I feel it is the worst one in my kit! Though I think this was because Mi Jung used on exclusively on the 5D MKIII, So that is a fluke! The runner up in the 35mm F1.4L with 67 photos.
So looking at the data, even though it feels like the 16-35 is always on my camera, More photos are taken with the 70-200 f4L. Looking at the pictures I can justify the disparity of of the data vs what I feel I have shot with this year. The 16-35 is my lens of choice, as my walk around lens, and I tend to be more selective in photos I take with it. While the 70-200 was used for sports and event photography, where i am less selective, and using burst mode.
The 70-200 f4L IS is a great performer though, and usually is always in my backpack when I am out shooting.
So take a look at your metadata, and share what your most used piece of glass was in 2016!
