After much tinkering, reading, and learning on the fly - I was eventually successful in setting up your Lt. Kernal / Rear Admiral HBA with an IDE hard drive:

The other day you asked about the SCSI to IDE adapter I used in the HyperDrive. Here are pictures of the front and back of it. I know nothing about it beyond that it works and what you see here; it came inside one of the SCSI drive chassis I picked up at a garage sale several months ago.
Also, I did a quick test on it; I copied two .d81 images worth of files onto a LU on the HyperDrive and then ran the VALIDATE command on every LU in the drive twice. All the commands appeared to complete successfully without any errors or problems, and the files appeared to be unaffected by the process, at least the ones I spot-checked afterwards. Maybe I need to delete some files on the drive and start moving stuff around, create more logical "holes" in the BAM or the Lt. K's equivalent of it before any issues will become apparent? Or maybe it just works? I do not yet know.

Bittersweet seeing the date of your post! I think you posted this, within several days of me taking my servers down in preparation for them being shipped back to the states!
So glad that is all mostly behind me now.
Anyway... On topic.... Very interesting. I would have screamed bloody murder if I had seen someone do this on a "modern" computer, but on something were drive speed doesn't matter like a Commodore 64, that would have been very helpful back in the day!

Nice to see the forum back up and running!
This was an exercise in discovery and learning, and I am glad to see that there is another viable option for re-driving the Lt. K should it be necessary down the road.
