Setting up test BBS (Don't have modem)

Post by hendrb01 »

It has been asked before what to do if you do not have a modem and you are trying to set up a 2nd copy of Image BBS for testing / programming.

If you use the +.modem/1650 file, it will not perform the modem check on boot, and go straight to the System Idle mode.

Steps to perform.

If you have not already copied the +.modem file from Image BBS 1.2a Side 2.
1. Copy +.modem/1650
2. Rename +.modem/1650 to +.modem
> open 15,dv,15,r0:+.modem=+.modem/1650

If you have already copied +.modem
1. Rename +.modem to +.modem.bak
> open 15.dv,15,"r0:+.modem.bak=+.modem"
> close 15
2. Load +.modem/1650 from Image 1.2a Side 2
3 . Save the file as +.modem to your Imager BBS test disk

Nothing to it!

If this is a virtual C64 one could also run a virtual modem such as tcpser to provide the necessary responses when the BBS expects a modem to reply... This would also have the added benefit of providing a way to test call the board...
