Miss & Mrs. Cops

Post by hendrb01 »

This is a place holder for discussion related to Miss & Mrs. Cops.

I will replace It in the near future with my thoughts on this great police comment.

Including a rebuttal to Mr. Richard James Havis of the South China Morning Post's scathing review (1.5 stars! Really? perhaps we watched a different film.

Richard James Havis of the South China Morning Post, gave it a scathing
review, stating ,"Even the dumbest of producers should have realised that a
film about a gang who drug, kidnap and rape young girls is not a fitting
subject for humour and slapstick."

On the surface, sounds 100% correct, but I think you need to look at
this through the context that in a lot of Asian Cinema, the directors and
production companies have to be very careful outright criticizing the
government and it's organisations, especially it's police and security
apparatuses.

As hidden cameras in restrooms, upskirt photography, and secrretly recording
sex tapes are becoming a big social issue here in Korea. As well as Korea
having the 2nd highest suicide rate in the world, wrapping a film criticising
the Korean National Police of not taking these crimes against women seriously
in a comedy is not too far fetched.

Mr. Havis should have also done a little more research into Korea's archane
libel laws. If you publish a statement, even if completely factual. If I can
prove financial dammage because of it, I can receive tort damages from you.

That is why you rarely see bad business or restraunt reviews in this country!

So again, I can very much see the "appropriateness" of this subject being
tackled in the vein of a slapstic commedy, because if it ruffels anyones
feathers, you could just turn around and say, "You really took this
seriously?"
