Restaurant Review: Smokey Saloon (Itaewon)
It is said in Korea you can tell how good a restaurant is by how long the line is. If you go by that metric, then this restaurant should have been awesome! I noticed the restaurant several weeks earlier while looking for an alternative to the Three Alley, or Seoul Pub.
When Mi Jungs niece came to visit, It was the perfect opportunity to heard out on the town and get a great restaurant quality burger. From the look of the food on the sign I was not going to be disappointed, however just like your favorite fast food joint, what you see on the picture is not necessarily what is going to show up on your plate.
What immediately shocked me, besides the obvious size difference was the total indifference to presentation. Look at all that empty space on the plate! Is that something that looks like it was worth waiting in line for? At the very LEAST, don’t put the double order of fries in a basket. Put it on the side of the burgers Leave any toppings off and set it on the side. It would save the burger from looking like something you would get a truck stop.
Not sure if it was because my hopes of a really great restaurant style burger were dashed just from it’s appearance, but I didn’t think the burger tasted all that great. Both Mi Jung’s niece and I though that maybe we would have gotten a better tasting burger a the McDonalds down the street.
Maybe it was just an off night, one of my co-workers went to the restaurant recently and said the burger they had was pretty good. Not sure, but with all the other restaurants Korea, and especially all that Itaewon has to offer I will most likely not be giving it another chance.
Food Appear: ** (Too much empty space on pate, Didn’t take time to make food look presentable)
Food Taste: *** (Wasn’t bad, but didn’t really stand out.)
DIRECTIONS: Take line #6 to Itaewon, Exit # 2. Walk up the stairs and make a U-Turn. Walk down the street until you come to the Smokey Saloon.
