Another Year Another Adventure
Renting a car and driving to Yeongwol
Over the years I have blogged our many adventures, from large trips to Cambodia and Viet Nam via the Me Kong, to weekend trips throughout Korea. We have had a lot of fun on our trips exploring new areas and seeing many wonderful new things! However the trip we are about to undertake may yet be the biggest challenge since moving to Korea 8 years ago. We have already traveled to Yeongwol twice before in 2015 http://www.catracing.org/hendrb/out-and-about-in-korea-yeongwol/and 2016 http://www.catracing.org/hendrb/korea-yeongwol-2016/. Both times we went by rail. While I was visiting the US a couple of months ago I applied for an international driving permit through AAA. This will not only be out first time going on a trip by car but will be my first time driving in Korea!
To say I am a bit nervous would be an understatement! Compared to how people drive in the US, Korea is like another planet! We have reserved a Kia Sportage through Lotte rental car, with the English navigation option, and I have played with several GPS apps on my iPhone. WAZE looks like it will get us in the vicinity, and has English navigation cues. Kakaonavi which was recommended by a coworker is all in Korean, but from what I can see will actually put us at the door to the pension. The plan is to bring the address with us to the car rental and have them program the address for us. Use the built in navigation as primary, with Kakaonavi as a backup!
We should be on the road by 1100 – 1130, and hope to arrive at the pension around 3pm. For a weekend of river rafting, biking, and relaxation!
Be sure to come back for another great Out And About To Korea blog, or how I finally lost all my hair driving in Korea!
